Daisy’s hot-button issue on Guiding Light

The last couple of days on Guiding Light have been really deep. I’d almost given up on the show when Reva left Jeffrey in the dark about what was going on with Allen and her, but then Daisy got pregnant.  Whoa!

Guiding Light writers could have gone the safe route and still had good drama. Daisy and Rafe would have to face the wrath of their parents, Natalia would have had to swallow her dislike of Daisy, Gus and Harley would… Well, I don’t really care about Gus and Harley. The teenagers would have faced parenthood and possibly another adoption storyline. But they didn’t do that. They took a chance with some real controversy- as in real life controversy. Daisy faced the situation basically alone and made the decision to abort.

The storyline is deep and the acting is, overall, superb. Honestly, Bonnie Dennison took her role to new heights. She did an excellent job of showing how the decision broke Daisy’s heart and how truly alone she felt. Even after her family and Rafe’s family found out she was alone and she really made that come alive.  I really enjoyed watching it the last couple of days.

Of course, the writer’s had to throw some serious asshattery into the mix. Reva, who didn’t tell anyone but Billy that she had cancer, announces to the whole family what Daisy went through? Come on, now. That was insane! And why did she say it in front of Natalia? Couldn’t she pull Harley to the side and whisper in her ear? Natalia was being nosy about Daisy, but that didn’t mean they had to tell her. I didn’t agree with that at all. I think they should have had Daisy tell Rafe and then Rafe go to his mother. The way they brought it out was just wrong.

I didn’t like Natalia’s reaction, either. I understood when she was in Company. Ok, that was big, shocking news (that she shouldn’t have been privy to) and she was probably reeling. But then she went to the Beacon and stood over Daisy to make sure she told Rafe. Where was Harley when some other woman was harassing her daughter? Where was Reva? Someone really needed to slap Natalia down in that episode. She crossed a line and no one stood up for Daisy. Again. Shocking. I understand that Natalia was upset and pissed- she had every right to be. She was thinking of her son and looking out for his best interests. I just don’t know why no one was hovering over Daisy and protecting her. Hi, Harley? Yeah, you’re old enough to be a full time mother now. Ok? Thanks.

Considering the Tuesday and Thursday episodes really got me emotionally involved in the show, I have to say that GL really hit a home run with this particular storyline. It really brought out the best in the actors and seriously rocked. Now if they would just stop with Ava and Marina and get rid of that Cedars set they might be able to attract a younger audience and get their ratings up. Oh, and produce this kind of top notch material every day. As it is now I’ll be sad when the Daisy/Rafe storyline ends because then it’ll be back to the same ol’ same ol’.

Welcome

Because my sinful pleasures don’t really belong on my other blog, Chipped Polish, I’m bringing them over here. This is where I’ll discuss my favorite t.v. shows (especially my soaps) and other not so glorious and mature things. Sometimes a woman just needs to kick off her shoes and let her hair down.

Of course, I’m not wearing shoes, and my hair was already down, but that is not the point.
