I’m a little bored
Soulgirl did a post a few days ago and it seems that some posties didn’t like it. The post is actually about a soul weekender. I’m assuming this is a weekend concert thing with lots of singing, dancing, and merriment. Apparently, Soulgirl posted a picture of a Scotsman with his kilt up. And that set off the fireworks. In the comment area she gets:
I was surfing through Postie blogs while I was at work during my lunch hour.
Loading a picture of a naked man is not cool.
A little warning next time maybe?
And:
Not all your readers are in Scotland, though. Seeing a guy’s parts dangling there isn’t cool at all. Dangling guy parts just isn’t that attractive. Keep in mind, also, that some people may have children looking over their shoulders, and it’s not up to you to educate them in anatomy. It might be best to have the photo further down the page and warn readers first. They can then choose to scroll down or not.
Yikes!
Anyway, it seems that someone ratted Soulgirl out to PPP and they “suspended” her for having mature content. The suspension was then lifted after much ado about… whatever. Soulgirl is back to work and the forum thread has been locked. So, why do I care?
Well, because of the reaction of some towards Google and the PR reduction. There was much growling and cursing of the G-folk because Google was censoring them and taking away their right to free speech and… Well, here’s a small sampling. These same folks that ratted out Soulgirl (who’s blog rocks, by the way) swore up, down, and sideways that they would never allow anyone dictate what they put on their blog. They wouldn’t have Google censoring them. They weren’t beholden to anyone.
And yet they can’t have two paid posts back to back, not too much swearing, and most certainly no Scotsmen with their kilts up. Not only are they not allowed to do “whatever I want” because of a TOS with which they could make some good money (Google’s) but they’re not allowed to do “whatever I want” because of TOS with which they can make good money- as long as the first TOS is in good standing. But they’re not being censored and they would never censor anyone. Unless, of course, they came face-to-face with what’s really under a Scotsman’s kilt. Then all bets are off.
I’m have no idea who reported Soulgirl for the TOS violation at the place that doesn’t censor bloggers. And she’s been reinstated. I just wonder if the person that reported her really didn’t have anything better to do with her/his time and/or if that person should maybe have had a stiff tequila before they sent in the report to the PTB. Really.

Sphere: Related ContentToo Much “CSI:Miami”
A&E loves to show “CSI: Miami”. It seems like everytime I flip past that channel (I rarely find a reason to land there) I’m seeing it. I don’t like that show at all.
Before “CSI: Miami” the regular “CSI” was a good show. The autopsy’s were done with full light and the cast didn’t need those silly little flashlights in broad daylight (it’s the desert, not Seattle, for goodness sake). There was daylight streaming through windows and you could actually make out the cast faces.
When Horatio Cane came on the scene that all changed. For some reason, because it’s always so dark and dank in Miami (that’s sarcasm, people) the sun suddenly set on the Las Vegas version. No more lights- except for those low-level blue ones and the flashlights. Now when they do an autopsy, they do it in the dark. If they really need to look at something they use the flashlights. I can’t make out the expressions on the faces of the actors because of the dim lighting. It’s horrible.
And the character of Horatio Cane? Well, I imagine he would have fit in quite well on “Miami Vice” with his sunglasses and gold chain. Ok, so maybe he doesn’t wear a gold chain. But that’s not important. The issue is David Caruso is overacting. Everytime he rips off those glasses in dramatic flare I want to hit him in the head. David, it’s not necessary to wear those glasses in those dark houses and it’s not necessary to rip them off everytime you figure out who the killer is. Please, stop!
A&E used to have some really good programming. Now, they’re only salvation is “Intervention” and “The First 48″. Someone somewhere found out that shows like “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and the above mentioned melodrama “CSI:Miami” were well received. Someone actually decided to get rid of the good stuff for the crap. Now the channel is nothing but low-budget, low-quality, mind-numbing idiocy. What happened, A&E?
Here’s a clue for the network execs. The only reason people watch this nonsense is because they have nothing else to watch. If you gave them decent programming they would watch the decent stuff. Look at USA Network. They’re putting on good shows (”Monk” and “Psych”) and people are watching. It’s worth the time and money. Most of us are sick of watching mullets running around chasing criminals or low-light melodramas. Don’t you hate the phrase “Thank God for TiVo”? Well, how about giving us something worth watching for once?
