Living in the Shadows
I was doing some blog hopping today. I have never realized how many blogs there are that tell people how to blog. It’s amazing, really. I’ve seen the usual blogs that give advice (I prefer Problogger, Copyblogger, and Blogger Unleashed), they give you the lists and how to increase productivity and traffic. But there are so many little blogs that are trying to do the same thing. It’s funny! They really remind me of the high school girls who think so-and-so (was Jennifer Aniston back in the day) is so cute, so they all get their hair done the same way. Or the Goth kids that all dress so gloomy and think they’re being original.
Notice the “kids” theme there? Very unoriginal. And funny. Did I mention that?
I thought about doing the same thing here. Really, because it looks so easy. Just pick a topic from an archive on a more popular blog and go from there. Not too difficult right? Blog about blogging!! I’d be one of in crowd. Except not. I’d be too busy living in someone else’s shadow. Nope. I’ll just watch the gurus from afar and figure it out for myself. Too much blogging about blogging can really give you a headache anyway. Reading the sheep blogs about blogging gives you a headache because you kind of feel sorry for them. It’s hard finding a spot where you can really shine, and they’re sitting in the shadows of others.
At any rate, I’ll be around to my old hangouts sometime this weekend. Life’s getting pretty hectic for me and I was getting caught up in reading some funny stuff. I’ve got to get back to the grind and back on track. It’s so damned easy to get distracted online. I should get myself a parental control block on all my favorite sites. Then I can’t visit them. I’ll just have to suffer and actually make some progress. Maybe I’ll even get that web scripting crap done. Heh.

Recently I’ve taken up watching U.S.A. Network after my daily dose of melodrama. I used to watch the news, but that’s become way too depressing for me. At any rate, Monk is now on from 4 to 6 and I have to say I really love that show. I sometimes watch it on Friday nights, but usually forget until the second showing late at night. By then I’m half asleep, so I don’t get through the whole thing. It’s a hilarious show, but sometimes Monk just seems so sad.
Today poor Monk was promised a reinstatement if he helped with an FBI investigation. The feds thought the mob had something to do with a hit of some sort (I missed that part) and the boss wanted Monk to come work for him. The FBI convinced Monk to do it, which was when they promised his reinstatement. The agent was hanging around in his Adidas golf shirt through the whole episode, generally being a pest. Monk did all the work, of course, and in the end found the real killer. It turned out that the killer didn’t have any mob ties and, in fact, only killed the victims because they were trying to stop him from stealing a gumball machine (he’d hidden 5 rare pennies inside and was trying to get them back). Monk figured it out, of course, but not without messing all kinds of things up in the process (as is his style). Then he was told he failed in his mission and there would be no reinstatement.
The sad part was at the end. Monk and Captain Stottlemyer were talking about Monk getting the agent back for breaking the deal. He said that the two FBI vans were loaded unevenly and that he wasn’t going to tell the feds. This, for some reason, was his revenge. After Stottlemeyer walked away, Monk looked very sad and seemed almost to be crying. It’s kind of like watching the Trix rabbit almost getting his prize, but always having it yanked out from under him. I never did think that was funny.
Friday new episodes of Monk are coming back on. I’m looking forward to it this time, because I’ve decided that Monk is way more entertaining than Moonlight (especially after last week).
