My Little Mermaid
Last weekend we received a book from personalized books for Mags. It’s called “Little Mermaid” and has her name and other details integrated into the story.
The book is hardback with a lovely picture of a mermaid underwater. Though it’s called “Little Mermaid” the story isn’t like the Disney story at all. This story has the child (in this case Mags) as the hero/ine, who must help the mermaid save her father from evil and who was eventually crowned an honorary member of the royal underwater family. The story is actually very endearing.
When I ordered the book I was asked questions such as “What is your child’s full name?”, “What town do you live in?” and “Name two friends” (among others). The reason is because the publishers actually put that information into the story. According to the story, Mags was playing along the seashore with her friends Samantha and Tina and then at the end Mags had to leave the mermaids to come back to our town (which is actually named in the book). There’s also an option to have the inside of the book inscribed. Ours says “To My Little Mermaid, Love, Mama”. I have two suggestions if you buy this book or another from personalized books: Make sure you put Daddy in the inscription too. Oh, and you could probably leave out your state, because there’s a line in the book where that’s inserted into the story and it’s rather clunky.
Mags really liked looking at it. Even though she’s not quite 4 she’s able to recognize her name, so she was thrilled to find it in the story. She loved when I got to the part about Samantha and Tina because her favorite friends were in the story too. She loves looking at the pictures. There’s a lot of detail to keep her interested in them, but not too much that it’s overwhelming.
Overall I was incredibly pleased with this book. It’s a great collection to our growing children’s library. It will also make a great keepsake for when she’s older. As a matter of fact, I’ll be buying another book for a birthday gift for a niece as well as a keepsake for my soon-to-be-born grandson.

I watched the series finale of “Jericho” last night. I really am hoping that the Sci-Fi Channel picks it up, because there is still a lot going on. I wasn’t too happy with how it “wrapped” up, but am pretty certain that it was never meant to go past 7 more weeks. That just makes me that much more irritated. But it was better than what happened to my beloved “Journeyman”.
You can see an excellent recap of the final episode at Entertainment Weekly. They ask how we felt about the last episode of “Jericho”. Meh. I just think it was planned from the start that this show wouldn’t air after 7 weeks and that just irritates the hell out of me. Apparently there was two eppys filmed in case this show didn’t make it- but it sure did look sorry.
I’m sick of network television.
