Walking
The weather was icy and ugly and didn’t seem to want to let up, so Grump and I decided to look at treadmills for my “low impact, aerobic exercise” habit (therapy, if you will). I couldn’t walk on the ice, because I really didn’t want to fall down or twist my ankle or get really, really cold. I even tried out a treadmill at my mother-in-law’s house. It was fun to see how fast I could go and how far I could go in a certain amount of time. My mp3 player helped keep me going and I didn’t mind it too much. I will say, though, that changing landscape is a huge plus for keeping me on the right track here. I love being outside among nature.
So it was a great thing when the weather finally let up. I was able to walk about 8 miles in two days (2 miles to somepleace, 2 miles from someplace and 2 days to do it). That seemed really helpful for my nerves. Did I mention that the family is getting under my skin and cabin fever is driving me completely batty? No? Well, now you know. It was really nice out for a couple of days– almost springlike. Which was cruel, because it’s obviously not spring and the cold is going to come back. That meant that there were a lot of people out and about and getting in my way.
Ugh.
That’s the worst part about walking outside. When you try to cross the street and some moron wants to turn into your crosswalk they almost always try to budge you out of the way with their front bumper (”you” in this case is “me”, obviously). Guess what, bucko, I’m moving as fast as I can and if you don’t want to wait for pedestrian legally crossing the street, then go country driving where you’ll only have innocent squirrels to worry about! I never hurry across for these fine, respectful people, because their cars are inching closer to me trying to get me to do just that. Sometimes I even manage to drop something and have to stop in order to pick it up. I’m sorry, did I just cause you to lose another 5 seconds? Um, too bad.
Sorry about that. I got off on a little tangent. People irritate me sometimes and, well, that’s one of those times.
So, the weather has turned back into “Winter in Ohio” weather and the beauty is gone again until April. That’s disappointing (not surprising) and has caused me to once again look at treadmills. I really don’t want to walk in the rain, snow and sleet– if I did I’d apply for a job with the Post Office and that’s not happening. My basement would be a perfect home for a new treadmill and I could paint beautiful pictures of nature to hang on the walls. Or maybe put up a picture of a car’s front end so I could alternate between running to get out of it’s way and flipping it the bird. That would be almost like walking the streets in my town.

The only thing worse than those people who inch up on you are the ones that don’t even bother looking before they turn and almost hit you. That’s always a thrilling experience.
Melissa’s last blog post..Why I love him
You’re right about that. Luckily my reflexes haven’t gone out on me yet. Today on the way home from the post office a little old lady tried to take me out with her car (she didn’t see me). I was like some stunt person ducking and dodging. Hopefully no one caught that to put up on YouTube. ;P
