Voice Over insanity
So, I’ve pretty much fallen in love with the Frontline Plus commercials. Those dogs and cats just warm my heart. I especially like them because the voice overs are supposed to be voice overs and not some silly thing that doesn’t seem right.
For instance, that new Febreze commercial. I like Febreze and use it. But that newest commerical is just… bleh. The lady comes in and tells her son that he has to wash his room. Really? Wash it? But her voice is quite obviously a voice over—as is her son’s. So you have a double whammy with the washing of the room and the cheesy voice over. Could they at least get the actors and the voice timed better?
I know, it’s silly to get so annoyed with these commercials, but I don’t understand why they need the voice overs for people anyway. What is the purpose? Is it cheaper? I don’t see how. Is it supposed to sound better? I don’t like the way it sounds—and I especially don’t like it when the voice and the mouth don’t synch. Are they trying to give voice actors more work? Taking them off the radio or something and putting them on television?
At any rate, if they’re going to use the voice actors, they should just keep them in commercials with animals. shoot, they should just hire more animals for all of the commericals. How cute would that be? A penguin spraying the Febreze? Ok,well, that wouldn’t be cute. They could do it animated and that would work. Yes? Get rid of the cheesy voice overs for people.
And, makers of Febreze, “washing” the room doesn’t work either. Sorry. That just falls flat. Your marketing people should probably rethink that. Or do like Frontline and just use cute animals.

I noticed that horrible voice over as well and I believe it was done because of a dialogue change. I don’t think the original line was “wash your room” as in the current commercial, I think it may have said something along the lines of “clean your room” but they decided to change it after the commercial was shot. In this case it would be cheaper to use voice over actors rather than reshoot the entire commercial.
