Tap, tap, BUZZ

You know, MP3 players come in really handy when you’re sitting somewhere and supposed to be listening but are bored straight to sleep (or something close to sleep). Stick an earbud in one side and then pull your hat down over your ears. Easy as pie.

One thing that irritates the you-know-what out of me, though, is sitting somewhere trying to actively listen to a speaker and half the people around me on texting on their phones. It’s especially rude when they actually have the sound on so that the rest of us hear when they have an incoming message. In these particular instances I want to grab the phone, fling it to the ground and stomp on it until it’s nothing but a pile of shiny, silver dust. Honestly, how rude to you have to be to do something like that in a place where people have paid good money to hear the speaker? Are you that important? Can twitter not wait for one flipping hour? Put the phone away and pay attention or get up and walk out of the room. Your rudeness is causing my good manners to slowly disappear as I contemplate ways of making you pay for interrupting my time.

I know, it sounds very, um, not ladylike. But there are times when mass communication devices should be against the rules. If you can’t pay attention, plug in your media player, stick it in your ear and daydream your way to somewhere else. But don’t force me to sit and listen to your phone beep (or whatever your ringtone happens to be) as well as you typing. I am close to losing my mind and making your communications come to a dead stop– which could very well cause you to lose your mind.

Ah, the wonders of technology. When you can sit in a room full of people, completely oblivious to them, and chat with people you’ll never actually meet a world away. Yay! We’re advancing.

Or something.
