Lilies, where are you?

One thing about my husband that I love is his adoration of sports gifts. Mostly Ohio State (college football), Mark Martin (NASCAR), Cleveland Indians (baseball) and the Philadelphia Eagles (NFL), but he’ll pretty much take anything and add it to our “collection” (not really mine of course, but we go halfsies). I never have to worry about what I’m going to get for him for his birthday/Christmas/our anniversary/Father’s Day. This year for Easter he asked for– this is no lie — an Ohio State mouse pad. Oh, the joy! Well, that was easy enough, huh?

His gift buying for me is not quite so easy. He seems to believe that for every holiday/birthday/reason for gift giving he should get me something sports related. I mentioned once (way back when we were dating) that I watched the Buffalo Bills back when they kept losing Superbowls. Now he feels every gift he gets me must have a red buffalo on a blue background. Whether I like it or not (usually I don’t like it). I wanted some new lily bulbs for my flower garden. I got a Bills t-shirt. HUH? Well, lily bulbs are hard to find, you see, but Buffalo gear in Southeastern Ohio is so easy to get your hands on. So, there you go.

No, I’m not really bitter about this whole thing. A little frustrated. Ready to pull my hair out. Maybe a little growly. But bitter, no. I can always use another Bills coffee mug or pillow case and, afterall, it goes so well with Eagles and NASCAR decor. How can I complain? Thanks, honey. Yeah, really. Thanks. How about for Easter this year I go ahead and buy you those lily bulbs? I bet you’d be an a-one, top-hat type gardener. Why don’t we give that a try?

And, no, darling, you can’t put that Ohio State frog thing in my front yard. It totally clashes with the little Indians adorned cow by the front steps. ;)
