Burn Notice Mid-Season Finale
I’m a little disappointed. While I was out researching faucets, it seems I missed a golden opportunity. An opportunity that may not come along again any time soon. I’ve been having some personal difficulties the last few weeks that have in some ways prevented me from doing things that I really love to do, like watch my favorite television programs and working on my writing (I would add "career" to that, but sadly it’s not so at the moment).
I don’t really want to get into specifics, because it kind of seems like whining. I don’t want to do that. I will say that from now on I will be more organized and thoughtful and remember my goals as far as my future career is concerned. And I really hope that another opportunity like the one I missed pops up in the future. I will hate to have that sidelined because of family issues that could probably be handled a lot better (again, not going to get into that). Anyway, on to better things.
Last night was the mid-season finale of “Burn Notice: Long Way Back”—which I didn’t miss. I made a point to sit down for that hour last night. I have to say that it was certainly a stunner. I’m left wondering if Fiona is really going to go back to Ireland and what Michael’s plans are going to be to get him “unburned”. If you missed this episode I highly recommend watching it online. And stop reading now.
Michael freed himself from the clutches of Strickler in a way I didn’t see coming. One of Fiona’s greatest enemies from Ireland finally tracked her down to Miami and came looking for her. Now I thought that they’d learned of her whereabouts from the guy who owned the bicycle shop back home (Fiona and her brother mentioned that in an offhanded way) because no sooner had he become part of their conversation did O’Neal find where she was hiding. Michael was knocked out, but not killed and the gang tried to kill Fiona’s brother. Well, the writer’s were very good at stringing us along and laying clues at the feet of the wrong person. Michael figured it out, though (of course!) and that’s how the viewers finally get it.
Strickler had called O’Neal and told him where Fiona was. He told Michael that he wanted to help him get rid of his “past mistakes” so that he could move on and get back into the agency. Strickler believed that Fiona was Michael’s greatest liability and wanted her out of the picture. He told Michael that it was better for him to let go of the “past”. During the entire diatribe you could see the anger building in Michael. I’ve got to say that Jeffery Donovan had that look down. Michael hated Strickler. As Strickler went on, Michael became more agitated. When Strickler said “past” Michael said “Fiona is not my past”, took a gun from his behind his back and shot Strickler dead. That was it.
I seriously did not see that coming and it was awesome. I have to give it to the writers, they really did a bang up job with this episode. Now, that was the most shocking part. Of course, Michael and Sam rescued Fi from the bad guys and the bad guys got arrested for murder (of Strickler) and bombing a bunch of places in Europe. You knew that was going to happen, right? The cliffhanger was the end.
Michael’s pilot/agent friend, Diego, calls him up. Seems now that Strickler is dead someone is coming for them and he’s deathly afraid. Michael tells him that he’s coming right over. When he gets there, Diego is on the ground in front of his high rise. The police are there and they’re calling it a homicide. Michael says that during a mission it’s not the enemy you can see that is the threat, it’s the enemy you can’t see you should be worried about and then the episode it over. The winter season will bring a new enemy for Michael, Sam (and no doubt) Fi to combat. I really can’t wait to see it.
