Why not frugal?

I was thinking of politicians who use campaign money to buy really expensive clothes and jewelry for themselves. Why don’t they buy something like wholesale fashion jewelry? I’m sure there would be designers and jewelers who would LOVE to have them wear their name. Isn’t that what happens when celebrities go to award shows? They get these items donated simply for the advertisement value?

I’m really interested in this kind of thing because I like to get samples and free things to try. I, of course, will never get a Vera Wang dress for the purpose of advertising the product. But I’ve received t-shirts and a coffee maker. Not a whole lot, I realize, but I still enjoyed them (in fact, the t-shirts are my favorite clothes). I think everyone should take advantage of things like that- especially celebrities and/or politicians.

I don’t really have an opinion on the issue of spending so much campaign money on a wardrobe. I’ve figured it was just part of the expenses and donors were probably aware of it. I think that the campaign should use the money in any way they see fit and if the people donating the money don’t have a problem with it, why should I? Still, if someone is a regular “Joe” (for instance) and knows first hand about the struggle of everyday moms and dads then maybe that someone should spend a little less money on pretty clothes. That’s just me, though, and I’m someone who buys clearance, secondhand and slightly irregular stuff normally. :) I’ve been known to dress quite nicely without spending much money on an outfit and that makes me quite proud.
