The Simpsons

We watched “The Simpsons Movie” for the first time. My mother-in-law is a little well off and has her own home theater seating thing going on, nice comfy chairs right in front of an amazing plasma television. It’s upstairs in an area that 75 years ago housed the servants of the house. She doesn’t have any live-in help, so she converted the room into the “tv room”. Then her husband (step-father-in-law) bought the tv and chairs. Pretty awesome, actually. But it only really gets used when there’s company. I like to sit up there because I like to feel important and oh-so posh. What can I say?

Anyway, we went over for a visit and they had rented the movie. I had a good laugh just at the fact that they rented that movie. Mother-in-law said that she thought Mags would like to watch it. Mags is three. The poor woman had no idea that the movie probably wasn’t suitable for a three year-old. Afterall, it’s a cartoon right?

While Poppy took Mags to play with the play farm, the hub and I decided to watch the movie. We’re way behind in our movie watching. I have to say that it wasn’t nearly as good as I thought it would be, but it wasn’t so disappointing. I laughed the hardest when Bart was skateboarding through town in the buff. But that was pretty much the extent of my guffawing.

I wish that there would have been some new kind of twist. It was just the Simpsons, nothing more- nothing less. I was certainly glad we hadn’t paid theater prices to go see the film. I might be singing a different tune if that had been the case. I would have preferred to watch a Rugrats movie, honestly, but it was a good way to pass the time.

One thing I was really disappointed in was the ad for whichever tv show Fox was touting. Why did they feel the need to advertise a television show during a movie? That was a little much. Isn’t it bad enough that movie theater prices are so high and they come with tons of commercials before the show? Now they’re going to start running ad tickers at the bottom of movies? I’d seriously rather see product placement than that stuff. Why couldn’t they just have Homer watching that particular program on his own tv. That would have been better and maybe even garnered a chuckle from me. And while they’re at it, have Bart drinking a Coke or Red Bull. Viewers are a lot less likely to be turned off by all of that (no matter how much some people say otherwise).

At any rate, if you’re like us and haven’t seen the movie yet, it’s ok. It’s not fantastic and certainly not anything different than what you see normally on the show. It is a decent way to spend a couple of hours without watching someone chew their own fingers off, though.
