The Edwards Scandal

John Edwards admits to having an affair, but he’s denying fathering a child with his former lover.

First of all, I think Elizabeth Edwards is a beautiful person inside and out. She’s a true inspiration and certainly DOES NOT need the garbage that she’s going to have to put up with now. According to Sen. Edwards, she’s known about the affair for a while and they’ve worked through it. Except now she has to see it again, know that her friends know, and know that her children know. Not only that, but she’s got to wonder if Rielle Hunter’s child does belong to John. I don’t believe for one second that the level of trust she had for him prior to his admission has been restored. At least not to the point where she can brush away the suspicions about that child’s parentage.

Secondly, why? Why with Hunter? What was the draw? I, unfortunately, can understand why people feel the need to seek comfort with someone else. But did it have to be someone who may have been a friend to his wife? He couldn’t go on be more discreet? Craig’s List, I hear, has plenty of opportunities for this kind of “comfort” and “companionship” with all the necessary discretion.

Some people are going to call for Elizabeth to dump his cheating ass. I don’t think that would be a good thing for her to do at this junction. She’s fighting terminal cancer, trying to grasp whatever time she has left, and a divorce- with all it’s stress and heartbreak- would not be good for her physical health. She’s working to give more time to her children, time she should NOT spend in divorce court. She most certainly doesn’t need this crap to feed her illness, but the press and the gossip hungry don’t give a damned about that. No doubt CNN and Fox will run with story day and night for a flippin’ week. I hope that Mrs. Edwards stays far away from the television. I hope that the relentless press doesn’t camp outside her home trying to get her commentary on what’s happened. She does not deserve what they will do to her. She deserves to live in peace right now- more than anything. And so do her children.

But that won’t happen with the American press. They’ll be on this like vultures on a buffalo carcass. That’s John’s fault and is just one more reason that he has completely fallen from grace in my eyes. I don’t care what good he’s done in his history or what his grand presidential plans were. He wallowed in the mud and gave the press a whiff of blood- at the expense of his beautiful wife’s health and the happiness of his children. He should be ashamed about that and so should his former mistress. They should both hang their heads in shame and do whatever they can to remove themselves from the limelight.
