Quaker Steak and Lube
Yesterday we went out for a day of shopping. We were actually just getting some groceries and a couple of pieces of home gym equipment. We stopped for lunch at Quaker Steak and Lube. I’d never been there before and was anxious to try it.
There aren’t many of them outside of Ohio and Pennsylvania, so you may not of heard of them. It’s a really interesting restaurant. It started out as a gas station and transformed into what it is now. The outside still looks like a service station, complete with bay doors and gas pumps. The door handles are actually gas nozzles. Very funny.
The inside is a lot bigger than you’d expect. There are four different seating areas and all of them hold what the average restaurant in this area would hold. We thought there’d be a wait when we got there, but were seated immediately. We sat in the “Brickyard”. There was a bar and tvs on every wall. It was decorated in a NASCAR motif. The noise level was a little louder than I care for, but that was ok. The service was extremely fast. They are famous for their wings, but we didn’t have any of them. We each got a lunch sandwich and onion rings. They were delicious- and the price couldn’t be beat. When we were done eating they brought us Twizzlers and warmed wet-naps.
The only thing I didn’t like about it were the bussers. They seemed anxious for people to leave. The ladies next to us were getting their things together and a busser came over and started to clear the table! When it was our turn to get ready, another busser stood right behind an empty chair at our table. I told him we weren’t leaving yet and he could clean the table as soon as we left the table. He immediately went away. I wonder if they’re required to do that (for turnover purposes) or if they’ve figured out they get extra tips if the customer is still there when they’re doing their work. Either way, that’s something they really shouldn’t permit.
Overall it was a nice experience. We spent about $25 with drinks, lunch and a tip. We’ll definitely be back another time if only to test the wing sauces.
