My Own Worst Enemy Cancelled

Christian Slater, who is an extreme fat burner just by virtue of his lovely voice (to me anyway) causing me to have heart palpitations, is going to be saying “Good-bye” to primetime televisions- at least for now. Slater’s show, “My Own Worst Enemy”, is getting the axe after they run through the rest of the already-shot episodes. Last week the show came in at a dismal 4 million viewers.

Dismal?

I didn’t really care for the show. I tried to watch it just because it starred Slater and I just adore him. But the whole split personality talking to each other thing bothered me. I just couldn’t get into it. I feel like there was potential for a really good story, but the writer’s flubbed it from about the second episode.

First of all, why did the two personalities meet so soon? It would have been way better if they would have stayed unaware of each other for a few weeks at least. And what was the deal with Edward’s weird obsession with Henry’s wife? Um, guys? Yeah, she’s married to both of you because you are the same person.

The action scenes were sickening in their mundaneness (not a word, I know). What was he supposed to be? An assassin? Why on earth would his handlers send him on missions when they knew Henry could wake up at just the wrong time (and did so in the most disappointing manners). Henry/Edward should have been taken off the missions and placed in a desk. Or, better yet, DON’T break Edward and let us get to know the two personalities separately.

Anyway, I can’t say that I’m sorry “My Own Worst Enemy” is going the way of my beloved “Journeyman” (I’m still not over that cancellation). I am, however, sorry that such an interesting storyline was hacked to pieces the way it was. I think this time NBC made the right choice with the cancellation.
