Meeting Jethro’s Dad
I’m beyond glad that my system is set up for higher bandwidth capabilities with a CAT6 cable. I was trying to watch last week’s “NCIS” on my sister’s computer and was taken back in time to when I would have to wait hours for a video to download so that I could watch it in all it’s choppy glory. I eventually gave up on my quest and decided to wait until I got home. My sister didn’t understand what the problem was because her system was new in 2000. That, I told her, is exactly the problem. I’m looking at upgrading my own system and it’s only 2 years old (3 if you don’t count the upgrading of memory I did two years ago).
I did manage to watch it though and it was probably one of the best episodes I’ve seen since Kate died. Gibbs had to go back to his hometown to investigate a case and the viewers (as well as his team) finally got a glimpse of Jethro as a young man. He was a troubled youth who didn’t have much use for his father or the other kids in his small hometown. At one point, for reasons that remain unclear, Gibbs was beaten up by the town rich guy and the sheriff (both were youths at the time). Later, of course, Jethro was able to exact revenge on his foes by revealing at the rich guy fathered a child out of wedlock and the sheriff was nothing but the rich guy’s patsy (very stereotypical, but done in an interesting way).
Jethro’s dad was just an old man trying to get along with his general store. He wasn’t too interested in what was going on in his town- except when people would share gossip with him. He didn’t like the tactics that the team used and thought they should use a more subtle method. Eventually, when someone blew up the team’s car (filled with DNA evidence) Jackson Gibbs came around and agreed to do it his son’s way. The end of the program brought the renewing of the father/son relationship and possibly forecast more appearances by Jethro’s dad in the series. It was touching and I look forward to seeing the pair together more often- so I hope the writer’s do something with that renewed bond.
I’ll probably watch “NCIS” online from now until Fox comes to their senses and puts “House” back on at 9pm ET. Unfortunately I have to make a choice and Fox, in all their wisdom, has deemed it necessary to wait 8 days from the air date before they’ll make “House” available for viewing online. That could change, though, if “House” doesn’t improve over the next couple of weeks. So far the storylines have been dry and without the usual omph that I’ve come to like about that show. If it doesn’t pick up considerably (or go back to it’s usual timeslot) I’ll be forced to watch “NCIS” when it airs and wait to watch “House” online.
