‘Maverick’ Suffers Stroke

James Garner James Garner, who starred in the hit television shows “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files”, suffered a minor stroke Tuesday.

Garner, 80, who built a six-decade career playing ruggedly charming, good-natured anti-heroes, suffered a stroke at home last Friday and was admitted to a Los Angeles-area hospital, publicist Jennifer Allen said.

The actor underwent surgery on Sunday, and his prognosis following the operation was described as “very positive,” Allen said, adding that Garner’s vital signs were good and that he was conscious and “responsive.”

The article goes on to say that Garner is expected to be discharged soon and that no further details are currently available.

James has been one of my favorite actors since I was a little girl. I watched reruns of “Maverick” and just fell in love. “The Rockford Files” was a favorite show of my mother and I watched it with her every week (I didn’t care for his sidekick, but my mother was a real fan). His more recent works have consisted of playing fathers and grandfathers- which he did well - but I’ll always prefer him as a good-hearted ladies man.
