Loss of Home Can Make People Bitter
Foreclosures in Ohio are at an all time high. It seems like everywhere I turn now there’s an auction going on. Just last weekend the house a couple of doors up was auctioned off. Another house around the corner just sold to a nice young couple not long ago and is again up for sale. Homes sales are in the tank right now, so I imagine that house will be on the auction block soon. It’s a terrible situation for anyone to be in- and it’s an epidemic right now.
My husband and I would like to sell our home to buy a place in the country. Homes with acreage attached are really cheap right now. We were looking into joining directbuy so that we can purchase home improvement items for less than retail. We’re lucky in that we didn’t buy over our means when we purchased our home (the previous owners were angry with their realtor because they couldn’t sell the house and we offered a lot less than what they originally wanted- and they accepted). And we’ve managed to do some major improvements on it since we moved in (siding, rewiring, new water tank), so if things were different we could make a good profit on it. I don’t see that happening now.
Whoever we get as a President needs to concentrate on what’s happening with the economy- especially jobs and homes. People are losing both at astonishing rates- a fact not elitist rhetoric. If folks can’t work to pay their mortgage and ultimately lose their homes, what are they left feeling? It certainly isn’t going to be an urge to get up and dance. They’re getting pissed and they’re looking for something tangible to be pissed at. My opinion is that we should all be pissed at the companies leaving this country, which are getting tax breaks for doing so, and Congress for sitting on their fat butts doing nothing (that encompasses the presidential candidates as well as those sitting in congress eating their fat sandwiches and enjoying their lush homes).
Maslow’s Hierarchy says that people want food and water first (Physiological), when that need is satisfied they move on to thinking about housing and employment, etc (Safety). How does one get the food and water? We need money. We need jobs to get money. We need money for… It’s a vicious cycle and people are resorting to their very basic needs because those need to be met first. How is that happening when they’re losing their homes? You wonder why people are pissed? Question why people are bitter? Ask those that are watching their home going to the highest bidder.
