Intervention

Billy, on Guiding Light, has been in an addiction treatment center for a couple of weeks. For a while Dinah was in there pretending to be a pill addict. For some reason she’s able to come and go as she pleases (supposedly to help Bill now?). I like that they are having Billy stay put, especially considering his history as an alcoholic, though I’d like to see him do something besides sit on his bed. It’s more realistic that folks put into treatment stay in treatment until they meet certain criteria.

I used to watch Intervention on A&E. It’s a show detailing the lives of drug/alcohol/gambling addicts, how they’ve reached rock bottom and how their families are trying to save them. It’s sad to see these folks ruining their lives with their drugs, but inspiring that their families take such an active role in helping them change. They then show the addicts after they’ve been in treatment for a while (or have finished treatment) and detail how their lives have changed for the better. Seeing a meth addict come out with weight gain being healthy is heart warming. I love seeing people get back on their own feet.

Back to Billy. I love that he’s not out of rehab yet, because it’s more true-to-form. What would be a perfect ITL? Billy in a group setting talking about his addiction and getting feedback from other participants. He could recall times in his life when the alcohol became his crutch and why he allowed that to happen. Then we could watch him emerge from his old self into something new and exciting. Instead of seeing him POOF! back into life in Springfield, I’d love to see him learn a lesson and share that with the rest of us. Just like Intervention.
