Honda to Rollout Cheap Hybrid in 2009

Honda is going green in 2009. They’re planning to introduce an affordable gas-electric hybrid to the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

Honda will sell a new, improved and affordable gas-electric hybrid in the U.S., Japan and Europe starting in early 2009, underlining the Japanese automaker’s commitment to “green” technology, the company president said Wednesday.

The new model — to be sold solely as a hybrid, and not as a traditional, gasoline-powered car — is a key part of Honda Motor Co.’s strategy for the next three years that President Takeo Fukui outlined at Tokyo headquarters.

The plan also included production innovations and expansion in Japan to cut costs so Honda can stay competitive amid soaring material and energy costs, he said.

While Honda is looking to help the environment as well as make some money, Americans can look forward to actually saving money at the pump with this new 5 door sedan- which is along the likes of the Toyota Prius. It will run on a fuel cell which has no emissions because it runs on the power created when hydrogen combines with oxygen to create water. Those of us hoping to purchase some teak patio furniture soon will be able to buy this car and save huge amounts of money at the gas pump. I’m pretty sure those who drive the gas-guzzling SUVs have no plans on giving them up. That gives the rest of us a slight leg up.

I’m looking forward to more choice in hybrid cars.
