Going a Little (do)Nuts

Michelle Malkin should really consider closing her laptop and taking a really, really long vacation. I think the poor woman has really hit bottom with this one.

In case you haven’t heard, Malkin and company went beserk when they saw culinary dream girl, Rachael Ray, wearing a paisley scarf in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial. Apparently, that scarf is a symbol of worldwide Islamic Jihad and Ms. Ray (and Dunkin’ Donuts) is supporting terrorism. Or something.

The controversial ad, which appeared earlier this month on the doughnut chain’s Web site to promote its iced coffee, came under fire nearly two weeks ago when pro-Jewish blogger Pam Geller posted it under the headline “Rachel [sic] Ray: Dunkin Donuts Jihad Tool.”

“Have you seen Rachel [sic] Ray wearing the icon of Yasser Arafatbastard and the bloody Islamic jihad,” Geller wrote. “This is part of the cultural jihad.”

Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin took up the cause last week, when she wrote on her Web site michellemalkin.com: “The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not so ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities and left-wing icons.”

Well, Dunkin’ Donuts is a stupid show of solidarity with the screeching idiocy pulled the ad, though they did note that Ray was simply wearing a scarf her stylist picked out for her. Guess that makes the stylist a terrorist sympathizer? Dunkin’ Donuts execs should have laughed hysterically at this nonsense and then just went about their business. There is nothing so stupid as to caving to illogical harping from people that assume everything they see is somehow either supporting terrorism or an invasion of illegals. Taking a look at Malkin’s website would tell them all they need to know. To her, and those that follow her, everything is suspect and everyone not like them should be sent somewhere other than here. This “campaign” against Dunkin’ Donuts is a prime example of that.

The really sad part is that this is gaining a lot of attention and there are enough people that are actually seeing terrorists where there are none. Perhaps if Ms. Malkin would imbibe in the decaffeinated version of her favorite Dunkin’ iced coffee this would have blown over quickly.
