Folksy can be funny

I really have to invest in a laptop and mobile router if only so I can blog while sitting in front of the t.v. (I could move the computer to that room, but there’s no room.) I would have loved to live-blog both the V.P. debate and the SNL skit this past weekend. Both events were noteworthy and, well, I missed the opportunity to do it live.

At any rate, I hated that Gov. Palin didn’t seem able to answer any of the questions posed to her and that Gwen Ifill didn’t have the nerve to press her. Oh, that Katie Couric would have moderated that one, it would have been beautiful. Oh well, it’s too late now. Gov. Palin was allowed to go off on tangents completely unrelated to the questions at hand and I think that, more than her obnoxious “folksiness”, is what did her in with the independent voters. People want to know exactly what she thinks, they don’t care about stump speeches. Do we really need someone in office who can only recite the stump speech and who is afraid to veer from prepared remarks?

But Tina Fey did a wonderful job of bringing Gov. Palin’s character to light. Moreso than Gov. Palin herself (because she won’t go off-message). I especially loved the reference to the drinking game. I’ve seen on Twitter that people were doing that. I hope no one picked “also” because they’d have been trashed by the time 10:30 rolled around.

I’m looking forward to the next presidential debate, if only because it gives the comedians some good material.
