Diet Soda vs. Fried Food

Recently I started drinking diet soda, as opposed (of course) to regular. I thought I was decreasing my risk of diabetes. Now I find out I’m pretty stupid. Seems that diet soda is directly related to Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is:

the collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes that include abdominal obesity, high cholesterol and blood glucose levels, and elevated blood pressure.

HUH? What is this? I’m trying to cut back on my sugar intake without giving up one of my vices and I get this. I’m already in the camp that uses shower chairs (mostly because they’re fun and it makes it way easier to shave my legs) and sometimes need a cane to walk. Considering how young I am, I thought I would try to do something that may not be the best for me, but would keep the high blood pressure and diabetes away. I was wrong.

The article goes on to say that they followed 9,500 men and women between the ages of 45-64. The really interesting part comes toward the end of the article.

But the one-third who ate the most fried food increased their risk by 25 percent compared with the one-third who ate the least, and surprisingly, the risk of developing metabolic syndrome was 34 percent higher among those who drank one can of diet soda a day compared with those who drank none.

Take your time reading that. Because it does say that the one-third who ate the most fried foods increased their risk of developing this condition than the third who ate the least. And because of this data they’ve concluded that the one can of diet soda a fried food eater drank contributed to their condition.

DUH.

This is seriously a case of scientist getting over-anxious to get their research published. We already know that eating a lot of fried foods leads to metabolic syndrome. We knew this before this idiotic research was published. We didn’t need them to tell us. We’ll end with a quote from a doctor involved with the study:

“This is interesting,” said Lyn M. Steffen, an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Minnesota and a co-author of the paper, which was posted online in the journal Circulation on Jan. 22. “Why is it happening? Is it some kind of chemical in the diet soda, or something about the behavior of diet soda drinkers?”

DUH.

I recommend the fried food :D , as for the muscles, you get the metabolic effect when you completely cut your training programme (loosing muscle)..

Hi,

Did you know that eating too much crisps/chips or other fried potatoe products might result in you having a higher risk of gettign cancer??

I found out recently in school that it contains acrylamide which is known to cause cancer in animals!!

Its pretty scary stuff…

And i thought that crisps just made you fat!
