Debate Party

Well, the debates are finally over. I kind of wish that there were a few more because I’ve got some awesome appetizer recipes that I can use at debate parties.

Debate parties are a funny phenomenon. I was watching something on television that mentioned them and thought that would be a fun thing to do. So, last Tuesday I invited a couple of people over to watch the last one. We didn’t do any kind of drinking (I’ve been sicker than a dog for about two weeks now) but we had soda and snacks. It was an incredibly lively event. Most of my friends aren’t interested in politics, but they came for the games (drinking games, really, without the drinks) and my father-in-law popped in. Unlike some of the rallies, the atmosphere here was fun and we all made a little bit of fun of both candidates (Bob Scheifer was our hero of the night). It was almost like trivia pursuit, except without the really hard questions.

At any rate, I think that would be a fun thing to have all the time, so I’m looking into some sort of game night. Maybe something like Mad Gab or a debate game of some sort. I’ve never actually had that much fun in my house without any alcohol involved and I’m pretty sure some of those in attendance haven’t either. Guess we’re getting old. Maybe we should think about bridge?
