Clinton Supporters Spew Hatred

Well, at least those claiming to be her supporters do.

I wonder if Rep. James Clyburn has any advertising pens that I can have to hand out to my friends. Because I think he really needs some support right now. Especially in light of the viciousness he’s facing since he decided to endorse Barack Obama.

An angry and upset Rep. James Clyburn said Wednesday that his office has been deluged with nasty phone calls with racial overtones since his endorsement of Barack Obama a day earlier.

Clyburn told FOX News Radio’s “Brian and the Judge” that the callers identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters. Clyburn, an African-American and the third ranking House Democrat, said a white intern in his office was so upset by the calls that she had to be consoled by other workers and left the office early.

Just when you think that the American people (or at least those on the Progressive/Liberal side of the aisle) are starting to put aside their racial prejudices/hate/fear look what happens. What is really astonishing, if in fact these are Hillary Clinton supporters, is the fact that many of these people proport to support her because she’s a woman and historically a minority and because she’s been the victim of “rampant” sexism from Obama supporters and the Republicans. Yet they have no qualms about raging about Michelle Obama being an angry black woman, or that Barack Obama has big lips or that he’s the “affirmative action” candidate. This is called reality, I suppose. Reality that a certain subgroup of people will do whatever it takes to get into power including denigrating another subgroup who has also historically been oppressed and without a powerful voice in American politics.

Instead of recognizing this race as historically significant and celebrating what has been overcome, Hillary Clinton supporters, if these people really are Clinton supporters, are digging down deep in the muck and trying to pull up all the hidden, debasing emotions that white Americans may feel about the idea of having an African-American president. They aren’t working to dispel these myths, because doing that wouldn’t help their candidate. They are trying to bring all of that fear, loathing and disgust back to the surface and put it back into the spotlight. If it becomes “ok” to hate African-Americans again, then McCain will when in November and they (if they REALLY are Clinton supporters) may be able to hope for their candidate to win in 2012.

Here’s the thing, though. If I am to believe so many people would hype this kind of hatred, the kind of hatred that Americans (and liberal/Progressives specifically) have bee fighting against for decades, are in fact Clinton supporters, then I cannot allow her to gain ground in 2012. If she and her supporters are going to work so hard to bring racism back to the forefront and let it become fine again, then she doesn’t deserve to be in the highest political office in this country.

It is my belief that Clinton needs to step up to the plate and disavow these people. She needs to tell the people pushing this kind of racism that she doesn’t want their support and that good riddance to them when they vote McCain. If she is worth anything she will remind her base that they are supposed to better than that.

I doubt I’ll see that coming any time soon, but I can be hopeful.

There will be no 2012 for Hillary, as I think people are just getting sick of her.
