Business Card Fun

My Sample Business CardI was stumblin’ around thinking of something to write about when I came across a site for logo designBecause I’m always trying new things that do with any kind of design I thought this would be really fun.

The site isn’t a free service. It does offer a chance to do up a sample logo. Then you stick that logo on a business card and voilà! It’s a fun process, actually. You start by picking an image type- high tech, bold, or flair. After that you pick a category then you pick a symbol to represent that category. I chose entertainment for this one because well, I like tv.

At first I was put off by the selection of logos. It seemed like there were only a small handful to choose from. However, the “small handful” actually represents the different categories of symbols to use for the logo. That was pretty awesome. Of course, I had to go through all of them just to see what was offered. Each different category of symbols for the Entertainment field held at least three symbols. Lots of choice.

Then, of course, you have to add your name. You pick the font right below that. It’s a pretty good selection of fonts actually. If you use your company name as well as a tagline then you mix the fonts up and really make an impact. Next pick the colors of the symbol and the name- as well as the size of the symbol. It’s best to keep things simple if you’re not very good at color coordinating. Be aware that the slide on the color picker is there, it’s just hard to see. To get to the different color variations you’ll have to either know the rgb or slide the picker. Be extra careful. Some colors don’t go together, no matter how much you’d like them too.

After you’ve done this you’ll see a sample of your logo. Looks pretty plain, huh? Click on the spot that invites you to preview your logo on a business card. Then click the rotating cards. You then get to see your logo and colors on about 20 different card designs. After you pick one you can adjust the size of your logo, put in your personal/business info and align the logo to your info in different ways. There is a lot of uniqueness here, because of the array of different design choices. Of course, I’m not very good at Math, but I’d say there’s probably millions of different combinations. You could play around all day until your found something that suited you.

You can see my end product above. Looks very suave, doesn’t it? It’s just slightly off, but that’s ok. It’s a unique design and that’s what matters. Right? Well, for most people that’s what matters. Heh. I won’t hazard a guess about the wannabes. ;)
