Beer in Seatbelt, Child unrestrained
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen all day.
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Police have arrested a motorist they say had a 24-pack of beer strapped in with a seat belt but had a 16-month-old girl unrestrained in the back seat with the toddler’s mother.
That certainly shows the driver’s priorities, doesn’t it?
According to the article, the child was sitting in the backseat with her mother. The driver, Tina D. Williams, said she didn’t know why the little girl wasn’t in a seat belt. She was arrested for “driving under the influence, child abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license”. They found two crack pipes in her purse.
The first thing I do when children are in my car is to make sure that each and every one of them is buckled in. If, for some reason, I would have a case of beer and some crack, that would go in the trunk/stowaway. Duh.
The article doesn’t say if the mother was charged with anything. However, I think she should be equally guilty of child abuse, simply because she allowed her child in a car with someone who was drunk. Of course, the women were both probably having a good time with those crack pipes when they heard the siren and saw the lights. So, really, that little girl needs to go straight to foster care. I know there’s this thing wherein the courts prefer to keep the kids with the parents, but in this case?
