Another Traffic Exchange Program
Someone sent me a link to Traffic Era. It’s a traffic exchange program along the lines of Blog Explosion and BlogMad- similar but not quite the same.
You get “rewards” for surfing using their surf page (and iframe) and viewing other people’s sites. Obviously, you’ve got to add your own site, so that people can surf to you- which costs you credits. Then you get more rewards when people sign up under you, for the amount of time you spend surfing (not for page hits, but time on each page), and you can buy credits (not with credits, but with actual money). You can be a silver member (free), gold member ($19.99 a month) or platinum member of $29.99 a month. Each membership option comes with a different calculation of credits/rewards. Obviously, the free membership gets the lowest calculations.
So, I went to the site, signed up and gave it a whirl. I’m not really sure how long they’ve been live, but every single site that I went to was a marketing letter. One of those that read like:
MAKE FREE MONEY NOW! Don’t wait any longer!! For $19.95 YOU can be RICH TOO!
What are you waiting for?!!!!
Every single one.
It was extremely depressing. I can appreciate and even read marketing material online. But I don’t care about getting free money (unless it’s the lottery, of course). And really, it seems like those marketing those pages are really wasting their time with a program like this.
The way it looks right now there are only marketers populating the site. So, I don’t think, at this point, anyone’s going to be making any money off the traffic from it. Marketers don’t want to spend money on ebooks because they’re already trying to sell their own. It’s a little bit of a waste of time right now. I can’t say if it’ll be different in a few weeks, but right now if you’re trying to sell yourself, your site or a product, I can’t recommend this site. If, however, you’re trying to get your traffic numbers up (and nothing else) then this could be a good tool- if you’re willing to work for it.
Another thing you should know is that you will need to have your popup blocker enabled. Even though you’re surfing through their iframe, you’re still going to encounter a lot of popups. Some are just wanting to make sure you really want to leave without buying something, others are just trying to sell you something else. I have no idea if any of them are vindictive and want revenge for you leaving. So be careful.
If you want to give it a shot you can join here (Yes, that is a referral link). I’m not promising anything but a slight headache from some really bad page designs. But you never know if Traffic Era is going to evolve into something handy down the line. It’s a tool to keep in mind for future ventures.
