About Nostradamus
Have you ever watched any of those shows on the History Channel that tell about Nostradamus and his predictions? I swear, every time I watch one of those shows I end up constantly looking out the bamboo blinds to see if there are any planes or comets coming toward my house.
I don’t know if I really believe any of the “predictions”. It’s ever so convenient for someone to translate something Nostradamus wrote hundreds of years ago– after the event has occurred. Why don’t they predict this stuff before it happens? I want to know about world changing events prior to them happening if I’m going to believe that the prophet really is a prophet.
I do like to watch the shows though. It’s very interesting to see how people interpret what he wrote (always after the fact, which drives me up a wall). The fiery mountains (or something similar) ended up being the Twin Towers. And the charmer of the world was Adolf Hitler (but could he have been talking about Barack Obama? Oh, the conundrum!). The way they believe he spoke about World War II also leaves a lot to be desired. How do they know these predictions have already come true? How do they know that he wasn’t being literal in his writings? Theories abound and I love to hear them.
I’d much rather them theorize about what’s going to happen, but I’ll take what I can get.
I have to say, though, that these shows are way more interesting that Sylvia Browne or John whatshisname. Only because Sylvia is always telling people they have Fibromyalgia and John whatshisname is a clear charlatan. I’m pretty sure neither of them predicted the future with any kind of accuracy. A little close doesn’t count in fortune telling.
Ah, these programs. Only good for making me a little more paranoid and then making me angry at myself for getting paranoid. Kind of like “The Day After Tomorrow” did for me after I saw that. Every time it gets really cold and snowy I worry that if I’m not sitting in front of a fire I’m going to turn into a people-cicle. Yeah, I’m really that gullible.
