37 Million Requests

People are going nuts for online car insurance. According to the Chicago Tribune, there were over 2 million new policies bought online in 2007. 37 million requests for insurance quotes were made online in 2007, jumping 15% from 2006.

Consumers bought a record 2 million auto insurance policies online in 2007, a 37 percent rise from 2006, according to ComScore Inc.

Shoppers also submitted requests for 32 million online quotes, an increase of 15 percent.

“It’s clear that the Internet has become an important factor in the auto insurance industry during the past few years,” ComScore, a tracker of online activity, said in a new report.

The Internet is a booming market for just about anyone, but if you can give someone a decent savings on their insurance, then you’re going to rise even further. There are no statistics currently about how effective these insurance policies are - or how hard it is to get companies to pay up - but it seems the high profit and high competition would keep the companies a little honest.
