NBC on Crack

journeymancast NBC needs to restructure their executive positions. Ax everyone at the top and start all over because someone there is seriously smoking crack.

Are they looking for more hits like “Law&Order”, “ER” and/or “Seinfeld”? If they are they need some history lessons. None of these shows were exceptionally well received when they first aired. Their fanbase grew over time. Had any of these shows started this season or last they wouldn’t have made it past their initial 13 weeks. But all of them eventually became mega hits.

There are rumors that “Journeyman”; is on its way out. “Life” is flatlining and probably won’t come back after the writer’s strike. Instead they, in their drunken stupors, decided the world needs more “Dateline: To Catch a Predator” or maybe just one more reality series (doesn’t matter that some of us want to spork out our own eyeballs at the very thought of that). Who needs thought-provoking entertainment when they can feed us more made up reality?

I long ago decided that cable t.v. offered better entertainment than the Big 3 networks. That is, until they too decided to jump on the reality t.v. bandwagon. Then I thought something good has to be on one of the network channels. My favorite so far is “House”, by a long shot, “NCIS” on CBS. I didn’t get into “Heroes” until a Sunday night marathon last season and this season I’ve been at school when it airs. But I’m always home for “Journeyman” and haven’t missed an episode yet. That show seriously rocks my socks. It rocks so much that I’ve given up watching “Mystery Diagnosis” on Discovery Health channel.

I felt the same way about “Jericho” last season and CBS pulled an all-night crack smoking party where someone decided it would be a good idea to cancel it. Yes, the fanbase succeeded in getting that ill-thought plan reversed, but with the writer’s strike I’m not anticipating that the last 7 episodes will ever air. Who will save post-apocalyptic Kansas? The world may never find out.

“Medium” is due back in January and it’s not nearly as compelling as “Journeyman” in my opinion. But for some reason it just keeps coming back to haunt us (har-dee-har!). There is nothing “best” about that show, but it could very well bump Dan Vasser off my screen. I don’t really appreciate that.

I’m hoping that NBC will get some fresh executive meat, then they would start counting folks who watch online and via their DVRs. Hello, NBC? Yeah, this is the 21st Century calling and we’d like for you to come join us. Don’t be afraid, it’s all good here. We promise you won’t get hurt. You might even enjoy the new innovations- like Internet junkies watching your shows from the comfort of where ever they can drag their laptops. Millions of people can watch your shows that way, NBC. Don’t leave them hanging.

If NBC doesn’t start understanding the modern viewer, I’m going to be forced to start watching my cable networks again. Which means Discovery Health Channel. Which means “John and Kate + 8″. Which means sporking my own eyeballs out.

Please, NBC, think of my eyeballs!

Hey Lizzie…I even heard Medium was set to REPLACE Journeyman, which is so mind-boggling to me. How can that show be producing any ratings better than Journeyman?

PS. Thanks for the link-backs…and for commenting on my blog! Going to add you to my RSS reader.

Hi, Mike! Thanks for stopping by and adding me. I’m honored.

I even heard Medium was set to REPLACE Journeyman, which is so mind-boggling to me.

Oh no! I watched Medium for a while, but that show doesn’t even come close to the talent and stories of Journeyman. Honestly, Dan and Co. rock socks! And whats-her-name? Gah! I can’t even think about it.

I’m curious about something…you linked to two blogs on my blog, yet I got no trackbacks…

I wonder if you actually HAVE to link to the /trackback URL?

Or if I have something setup wrong?

Mike’s last blog post..Is the WGA strike almost over?

I commented at your spot about that. I think you might not have trackbacks enabled.

I have this enabled:

- Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)

Do you have this setting enabled?

- Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)

I sent you an email. I think the code in your comments.php isn’t right.

I’m pretty sure comments.php isn’t the file used for someone doing a trackback. It’s more like this:

Mike’s last blog post..Is the WGA strike almost over?

Here is the code to show the trackback url:
<?php trackback_url(display); ?>

Here is the code for it to be auto-detected:
<!--
<?php trackback_rdf(); ?>

I got into Heroes mid season last year and was hooked since.

I can tell you why they like reality shows and Dateline, they’re cheap! I heard somewhere that the longer a series goes on, the more expensive they get. The Law and Order series, of which I love Criminal Intent on Bravo Sunday afternoons, costs tons of money.

Quality shows become more and more rare because no one is willing to take a chance on anything. I’m surprised Heroes got made in the 1st place.

I know I’m late to the conversation on this one, but smoking crack…that’s funny stuff. I think you might be right, though. Journeyman is actually really compelling…and probably won’t make it. And Jericho is coming back, but I wouldn’t get too attached.
