Google Made Me Miss My Show

I didn’t a chance to watch my show last night and I’m irritated. Wednesdays are dedicated to “Ghost Hunters” on USA Network. I’ve got this thing for Jay, but don’t tell. Anyway, I stayed after class to talk with my Math professor (I wrote about that at Chipped Polish) and didn’t get home until 10:30 PM (EDT). I planned on watching the 11:00 replay, but completely lost track of time. I got lost in some forums, answered some emails, and did a little code work on a theme I’m not getting done. Pretty soon it was 1 AM and time for bed.

I’ve been using my time with Jay the Ghost Hunters to work on my homework, but I completely blew that off last night. I’m losing perspective, folks! I’m getting lost in a sea of networking. I’m not too sure that’s a good thing at this point. I haven’t read the new chapter we’re about to start in Psych and I haven’t finished project 6 in Intro to Web Tech. Of course, I’m missing out on some awesome shows too. See what I mean? I guess I could TiVo my shows, but they’d still never get watched and I can’t do that with my classes. Hello! I’m really slacking here.

So, what did I get caught up in last night? There was an interesting discussion surrounding the question “Would you vote for Hillary Clinton?” (No) and another one surround the question “Is homosexuality a sin?” (I didn’t participate in that one because the most vocal about that are always the most fanatical devout). It’s a question that never gets answered or discussed in a really civil manner. Still, it’s fun to watch all the heads imploding. I get giggle fits whenever I see both sides throwing Bible verses at each other. Honestly, what’s the point? Then I saw a lot of implosions because Google knocked some folks’ pagerank down. I wrote about that here. I do have something to add though.

Some people are calling for an anti-trust lawsuit against Google because when they lost their pagerank they also lost good money opportunities in the PPP marketplace. I was watching to see if cooler heads prevailed around this issue, but so far nada. The thing that people don’t understand is that Google, though highly popular and influential, does not have a monopoly on search engines- no matter how bad they want it. Though Yahoo! and Ask.com aren’t as popular (yet) they still have a big chunk of the search engine traffic. People still buy ads from them and still utilize them (I use Ask.com all the time, as a matter of fact). No lawsuit is going to make it passed processing in this case. Hopefully now people will stop putting so much stock in pagerank and find away to let their toolbars go.

I won’t mention the fact that I find it hilarious that the biggest PR snobs got hit the hardest. Nope, I’ll leave that one alone. I hope, though, that they find some peace of mind through all of this horror and trauma.

Now, where’s my math book?
