Clashing Blog Cultures = Funny

Finals this week, so… No t.v. and not a lot of blog surfing. It’s been quite traumatic, actually, and I just had to get a fix. I’ll admit I’m addicted to blog surfing. What? You got a problem with that?

I’ve followed the herd once again and have now joined Entrecard. Honestly, It’s an awesome little service. I’ll write more about it later (time restraints, you know) but it can be just as addicting as my beloved BloggingZoom. Surfing the widgets will suck a lot of your time away. Consider yourself warned.(psst… that’s a good thing.)

I also visited some blogs on my links list (that’s what it’s there for, right?). One of my favorite blogs of all blogging time is “Jon Swift“. He’s got a particular kind of humor that just rocks my socks. He sometimes does a posts wherein he discusses blogs that have discussed him. It’s really interesting reading. It’s especially funny when folks don’t get the joke. It’s a good thing that there’s always some nice folks that point out to the outraged (because someone is always outraged) that they’re being hoodwinked.

So, Jon did one of the above mentioned posts a couple of days ago. Of course, he takes shots at Jeff Goldstein and Ann Althouse- par for the course – but this time he adds a little twist. Seems that Sir Swift signed up to have his blog reviewed by the ladies of I Talk 2 Much. He did so back in March and just received the “review”. The reviewers there don’t care a whole lot for, well, anything I guess, so he didn’t fare too well. He mentioned in his post that he had never heard of them and that got them going. That seems to be a bit of a hot button thing for them. There was almost a witty repartee between Ms. Chatty and Mr. Swift, but it fell disappointingly short. And the rest of the commenters, I think, may have missed it completely. *sigh*

What is really interesting to me is the difference in tone between Swift’s commenters and IT2M commenters. The folks at IT2M didn’t know about Swift’s blog and probably don’t care that it’s an extremely popular blog in the political blogosphere. When folks kindly pointed out that the blog under review wasn’t written by some newbie idiot as they maybe thought, they kicked up their attacks a few more levels. One person even laughed because there is no “H” in his name and, well, that probably means that he’s trying to be kewl like Jon Stewart, or something. HUH? Of course, there were the usual “Well, he’s not funny like the real Jonathon Swift…blah blah blah”. In my opinion (as much as it counts right now) is that yes, he is. Considering the differences of political climate today and then? Bah! And if he can convince both sides of the aisle that he’s being serious when he write, well, shoot, that just proves my point. And he can get the pot stirred without juvenile name calling. Sure, he’s long-winded, but the results of his writing are superb. Also, I’m pretty sure that Swift doesn’t have to “whore” for links, as someone suggested. This is exactly what’s fun about reading reactions to him. When people don’t get it, they really don’t get it and get hilariously angry when it’s pointed out to them.

Funny quote: “We’re all about providing people with their 15 minutes of fame.”
Funnier quote: “I think he drops the “H” from his name to “distinguish” himself from the toilet.
He failed, they are synonymous.”

*snort* Yeah, I’m easily amused.

Journeyman is back on tonight. Don’t forget to watch. Help save Journeyman!!

And now back to your regularly scheduled…um, well, nothing’s regularly scheduled, so that’s all folks.

Update:

Just watched my new fav show, Journeyman, and at the end I heard these magical words:

Join us next week for an all new Journeyman.

Hallelujah!

Haha yeah I joined Entrecard yesterday, it’s fairly addictive! Good luck in your finals; your quotes were too complex for me to I’m guessing you’ll do fine! Haha

Paddy’s last blog post..Unbearable

The people at ITalk2Much are brutal. They put people down only to make themselves feel better. I submitted my blog 2 years ago- got 5 stars or whatever, then they started bashing me.Kind of confused me, to be honest. Anyway, here through EntreCard-welcome, it’s an addictive place. :D

Hi, Paddy & Beth! Thanks for stopping in!

Paddy,
I was quoting the comment thread of IT2M. The first one was funny because Jon Swift, the blogger, is already pretty well known in certain blogging circles so he doesn’t need his “15 Minutes of Fame”. The second quote was funny because Jonathon Swift, from whom the blogger got his pseudonym, didn’t spell his name with an “H” either. Also, the toilet thing didn’t make sense.

Beth,
Wow, you’re certainly brave! :) They do love to bash, don’t they? Not my cuppa, but whatever. I’d much rather read blogs that don’t devolve into who’s the biggest asshat, ya know? Also, the insults? Not overly creative. But it was a fun read.

I’m totally addicted to Entrecard. I was doing some surfing when I should have been studying and now that the majority of my exams are over I can actually comment. It’s a nice distraction, that’s for sure.
